According to a press release from the Summit County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Natural Resources and the State Forester passed the restrictions due to high fire risk.
The use of firearms is now illegal in Echo Canyon, east of I-84 and north of I-80, Weber Canyon east of Oakley, including the subdivisions in the Thousand Peaks area and all wilderness areas including Manor Lands, Uinta Lands and Pine Plateau.
According to Summit County Detective Sergeant Ron Bridge, the State Forester was responsible for selecting the restricted areas.
"Most of the areas where it is restricted are either cabin areas or have limited access roads," he said. "All law enforcement agencies will be enforcing the ban and we will be taking a zero-tolerance position."
The ban will be in effect until further notice. Firecrackers and open fires are also banned in most areas of the county.
