Residents of the Foxbay and Hailstone condos, and Stillwater Lodge, have been evacuated due to a brush fire that ignited Saturday afternoon along US 40.

As of 3 p.m. smoke was billowing above the Jordanelle Reservoir. In places, the fire was burning right alongside the shoulder of the east side of US 40 and Utah Highway Patrol troopers were slowing northbound traffic to protect firefighters.

According to Park City Fire Chief Paul Hewitt, as of 3:30 p.m. the fire was still growing and the cause of the fire had not been determined. He estimated the fire had grown to more than 100 acres. At that point, he said the winds were blowing south and east so he did not anticipate the fire would jump the highway. He added that about 60 to 70 acres of the fire were burning in Summit County.

Fire crews were keeping a close watch on other buildings in the Stillwater area.. An eyewitness said residents were gathered at the Mayflower Lodge awaiting word on further evacuations.

Park City Fire crews were called in to assist Wasatch County and air support was also expected to join the suppression effort.
