Tom Van Gorder will fill in as Superintendent of Park City School District until a permanent replacement is hired. He will step into his role on October 1 when current Superintendent Ray Timothy leaves to head up the Utah Education Network.

It will be sometime next year before a new superintendent takes over. State law prohibits the Board of Education from hiring a permanent replacement for a superintendent between the time a new school board member is elected and when the member takes office in January. The Board does not feel it has sufficient time between now and the November election to conduct a thorough nation-wide search.

After the new Board is seated in January, it will begin drawing up its requirements and expectations for the new district superintendent and set the recruitment process into full motion. In the meantime, the Board has complete confidence in Mr. Van Gorder and his ability to keep the District on track and advancing towards its goals.

Van Gorder has worked in several positions for Park City School District since 1994 including serving as interim superintendent in 2002 and again in 2007. He is currently the District's Director of Student Services.
