Madison Bell, of Park City, Utah, was recently selected to represent Utah State University as a student intern for Senator Orrin Hatch, of the United States Senate. Madison recently relocated to Washington D.C., where she will reside for the school semester.

As an intern in Senator Hatch's office, Bell will have the opportunity to see first-hand the workings of a congressional office and observe the political process in action. Her responsibilities include attending Senate hearings, assisting legislative assistants with research on specific projects, responding to constituent mail and tracking legislation. Bell will also conduct private tours of the U.S. Capitol, help sort mail, meet and greet constituents, answer telephones and work on other projects as needed.

Of her experience, Bell said, "I feel very fortunate and honored to have been selected to represent Utah State University as an intern for Senator Hatch. The Senator has provided great leadership while serving as a United States Senator. He has been a great example for Utah, and I look forward to the educational opportunities I will receive while working in his office. It is a fantastic opportunity to be an intern in Washington D.C. with the upcoming national presidential and congressional elections taking place in October."

A limited number of internships are available each year for the Senator's staff and the Judiciary Committee staff. Preference is given to full-time college juniors and seniors who are residents of Utah or who are currently attending a Utah university or college.

Bell is sponsored by Utah State University, where she is currently a junior, studying political science and Mandarin Chinese. In 2010, Bell was chosen from over 500 high school student applicants to represent Utah State University for four years as an Ambassador. Her Ambassador responsibilities include recruiting high school students and providing campus tours to potential students and families. Bell has participated at a number of Utah high school college recruitment days to recruit students to USU, including Park City High School.

Bell graduated from Park City High School in 2010. While at Park City High School, she participated in student government, Chinese student exchange programs and athletics.

During her freshman year at U.S.U. she spearheaded the efforts to organize their first Women's Lacrosse team.

Madison is the daughter of Richard and Judy Bell.
