For 17 years, the Park City Singers, a non-audition community choir, has presented Christmas concerts around town.

This year's performances will be at Park City Community Church on Dec. 14, St Luke's Episcopal Church on Dec. 16 and a St. Mary's Catholic Church on Dec. 21.

The concerts will feature a mix of fun and reverent Christmas carols and arrangements that were selected from boxes and boxes of music, said Marty Stattin, a longtime member of the Park City Singers.

"We have a huge inventory of holiday songs that we've performed over the past 17 years and we have a committee that goes through the list and chooses what we'll sing," Stattin explained. "We base the selections on what we think people will want to hear."

This year the singers will perform 14 works, including a new medley called "This Is Christmas."

"Some of the selections are serious and reverent and, the others are the ones that families know, like 'Here Comes Santa Claus' and things like that," Stattin said. "We do try to make our concerts appealing to families, and all the people who come to town to celebrate the holidays at Christmastime."

This season, the choir, directed by Debra Cook, voice coach of the Utah Conservatory, has close to 60 performers, of those, 14 are new members.

"The uniqueness about the Park City Singers is that we're open to anyone who loves to sing," Stattin said. "Generally, singers who join do well because they sing from their hearts, and our winter concerts usually have more performers because many people are back from summer vacations or visiting for the holidays."

The singers, along with accompanist Shelle Jennings, began rehearsing one day a week for the Christmas concerts at the beginning of September.

"It started to feel like the holiday season back then, because the kids were in school and we could feel Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up," Stattin said.
