Josh Aaronson, the rabbi at Temple Har Shalom in the Snyderville Basin, will depart in the middle of 2013 to become the spiritual leader of a synagogue in Southern California.
He will become the senior rabbi at Temple Judea in Tarzana, Calif. Aaronson plans to leave Temple Har Shalom at the end of June.
He was the first full-time rabbi at Temple Har Shalom when he arrived in 2002. He said Park City Jews were a loosely affiliated group at that time. The Jewish community has grown into a "visible, vibrant part of the community" since then, he said.
Temple Har Shalom opened a synagogue on S.R. 224 in the Snyderville Basin in 2008. The membership is approximately 320 families compared to the more than 1,000 families at Temple Judea.
Aaronson is 51 years old and lives in Jeremy Ranch with his family. He arrived in Park City from a rabbinical position in Perth, Australia.
