The Park City Police Department arrested a man on multiple charges on Sunday, claiming that he fired a gun inside an Old Town house during a dispute involving himself, his girlfriend and a man who was attempting to help the woman after a minor car accident.

The man is 31 years old and lives in Old Town. The police booked him into the Summit County Jail on 15 preliminary charges, including weapons and drug counts. The most serious charge, a first-degree felony, is a count of aggravated burglary.

The police responded to a house on Empire Avenue after receiving a 911 call at 12:29 a.m.

Phil Kirk, a police captain, said a man who lives at the house heard a vehicle slide off the road at 11:50 p.m. The man went outside and saw a sedan had come to rest on his property. The man talked to the woman who was driving the car. She asked for help, but a tow truck was needed, Kirk said.

The suspect, who was later found to be the woman's boyfriend, approached the scene on foot. The woman asked both of the men to assist. The man who lives at the house invited the woman inside to wait for a tow truck, Kirk said, indicating that a dispute then started between the woman and the suspect. As she went into the house, the suspect became upset and left, Kirk said.

While the two were waiting inside for a tow truck, the suspect returned and entered the house with a rifle and a handgun, Kirk said. The suspect and the woman argued, the suspect left and then returned, according to Kirk. When the man returned he had a different handgun but no rifle, Kirk said.

Another argument broke out and the suspect fired the handgun once toward the kitchen, Kirk said. Nobody was hit.

The suspect and the woman then left and the man who lives at the house locked the door and called 911, Kirk said.

Police officers who responded found the suspect standing at the driveway of a nearby house and arrested him. Kirk said the suspect had a handgun when he was arrested. He was booked into the Summit County Jail. He remained incarcerated Tuesday morning. Bail is set at $70,565.
