The Park City Police Department last week received at least one and possibly two reports about suspected fraud involving rental properties, something that has been problematic since the early part of the ski season.
Although the reports have subsided recently, the cases last week illustrate a continuing issue.
In one of the cases, reported on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 10:35 a.m., the owner of a house on Woodside Avenue apparently contacted the police saying the house was listed for rent on the online classified marketplace Craigslist. The house, though, is not for rent the person told the police.
In the other case, the police received a complaint from Park Avenue reporting a potential scam listed on Craigslist. The person wanted an officer to contact them. Public police logs did not provide details about the suspected scam, but many of the cases involving bogus lodging have been initiated through Craigslist, the police have said.
The report was logged on Friday, Feb. 15 at 4:37 p.m.
