Park City's six elected officials recently filed statements at City Hall declaring potential conflicts of interest, something that is done on an annual basis with little publicity.
Each of the disclosure affidavits was dated Feb. 28. The information in each of them is similar to those the elected officials filed in previous years.
The forms provide an idea of what sort of conflicts of interest an elected official might face while conducting City Hall business. The elected officials normally verbally declare a conflict of interest during City Council meetings if one arises as well. Sometimes an elected official will excuse himself or herself from a decision based on a conflict of interest.
In signing the affidavits, the elected officials also declared whether they will represent any people or businesses with decisions before City Hall. None of them indicated they would.
Highlights from each of the affidavits included: Mayor Dana Williams listed his house on Doc Holliday Drive and his employment at Park City Coffee Roaster. The coffee shop has locations at the Kimball Art Center and on Ute Boulevard at Kimball Junction. City Councilman Andy Beerman listed his residence on Park Avenue. He also noted his ownership interest in the Treasure Mountain Inn on Main Street. Beerman, meanwhile, also listed a relationship with the Historic Park City Association, a group that promotes businesses on or close to Main Street. City Councilman Dick Peek listed his residence on River Birch Court. He noted his role in his construction firm, Peek Construction. City Councilwoman Cindy Matsumoto listed her residence on Silver Cloud Drive and her partial ownership of Right at Home, a furnishings store on Bonanza Drive. She also noted her daughter, Katherine Matsumoto-Gray, is a member of the Historic Preservation Board, a City Hall panel with a role in some Old Town development issues. City Councilman Alex Butwinski listed a residence on Ashley Court. His affidavit indicates he is the landlord at a property on Sun Peak Drive in the Snyderville Basin. Butwinski lists American Ski Company Utah as the tenant, indicating the firm is under the Talisker umbrella. Talisker Corporation regularly has business in front of City Hall. City Councilwoman Liza Simpson lists that she resides on Main Street and that she is an employee of Dolly's Bookstore, also on Main Street. Simpson's husband is employed by the municipal government, according to the affidavit.
