Skullcandy, one of the leading global designers, marketers and distributors of performance audio and gaming headphones based in Park City has named Hoby Darling of Nike its new president and CEO effective immediately, according to a press release from Skullcandy.
Less than two months ago, Skullcandy announced former CEO Jeremy Andrus was stepping down to pursue a job with Massachusetts investment firm Solamere Capital, co-founded by Mitt Romney's son, Tagg.
According to a press release, Jeff Kearl, Chairman of the Board for Skullcandy spearheaded a search to replace Andrus. Focusing on candidates that could remedy the immediate initiatives outlined in last quarter's earnings.
"I am extremely excited to join the Skullcandy team at this early stage of the company's global growth cycle," Darling said in the release. "I have been admiring the brand's progress since Rick [Andrus] started the company 10 years ago, and I see tremendous potential to leverage the platform and culture that is already in place."
During his stint at Nike, Darling held the role of general manager of Nike Inc.'s digital sports division, a segment of the athletic gear and other tech-focused products. Prior to Nike, Darling served as an executive at the apparel-maker Volcom. Darling was also named to Sporting Goods Business' 40 under 40 in sports in 2010.
Reporting a dismal first-quarter in March, Darling has his work cut out for him in his early tenure.

"The board is acutely aware of the needs of this organization and has moved swiftly to find the greatest resource to meet those needs. Hoby's involvement with both emerging and global brands makes him the ideal person to lead the company."
Alden occupied the position until Darling was selected for the job. He launched Skullcandy in 2003, which quickly became one of the world's most distinct audio brands. The company, that first sold their product at Milo Snow & Skate in Park City, now distributes through a variety of channels in the U.S. and 80 countries worldwide.
