The Basin Recreation Fieldhouse floor will once again be completely covered with ski and snowboard equipment this year for the 41st annual Park City Ski Swap.
The Fieldhouse's 30,000 square foot floor will feature skis and snowboards, along with other winter sports equipment and clothing, that are less than five years old being sold for rock-bottom prices.
Though the event, which runs from Nov. 8 to Nov. 10, is taking place a little bit later this year than in the past, Park City Ski Team director Jesse Hunt thinks this Ski Swap will be just as successful.
"One of the things that makes this such a success is we have early check-in," he said. "That gives locals plenty of time to get their equipment in the Swap."
The early check-in times are during regular business hours on Nov. 4-7 at either Jans or Cole Sport on Park Avenue.
The event itself, which serves as the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Park City Ski Team, costs $10 to enter on Friday, Nov. 8, when the floor will be open from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Swap will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a $5 entrance fee. On Sunday, Nov. 10, the event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a $2 door charge.
"We put thousands of volunteer hours into it to make it happen," Hunt said. "We're filling the Fieldhouse, so there's a lot to choose from."
Though Hunt said the best time to go for the lowest prices is Friday night, there will be great deals all weekend long.
"We're busy all three days because of the volume of stuff we have," he said. "You can shop all through Sunday and find some really good deals."
Prices are so low, Hunt said, because locals are looking to move on to newer equipment.
"The goal for some people is to clean out their garage so they can go look for new gear," he said. "That lends itself well to pricing."
And the Ski Swap will be more than just skis and snowboards, he added.
"Ski poles, boots, bindings, clothing, pants, warm-ups, helmets, goggles all of that," he said. "You name it, it's there. If you need something for skiing, you'll find it."
