Global repercussions
After ignoring the evidence for years, we seem to be finally moving toward a consensus: Yes, human behavior does have an impact on things like the acidity of our oceans, the temperature of the air and the abundance or scarcity of other species. So what do we do now? Do we wait for government to take the lead or do we take the initiative as individuals? What are you doing personally to reduce your environmental footprint? Summit County Council Candidates

Summit County voters will elect their first five-member county council this November. All of the candidates are running 'at large' which is a dramatic departure from the days when one seat on the three member commission was always held by a resident of North Summit, one from South Summit and one from Park City.

During the debates leading up to the decision to shift from a three-member commission to a five-member council with a county manager, many citizens expressed concerns about whether all regions would be fairly represented under the new system.

Some worried that the less populated east side of the county would lose its voice at the table, others said the more urbanized west side deserved more representation than under the old system.

This map shows the geographic distribution of the candidates who have filed to run for the five council seats so far. The filing window closes at 5 p.m. Monday, March 17.
