Motown will motor into to Park City
June 4, 2013
Berry Gordy’s legendary Motown Records made its mark not just on the music industry, but society at large, with a sound that has become one of the most significant musical accomplishments and stunning success stories of the 20th century, according to MotownMuseum.org.
In the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, artists such as Diana Ross & the Supremes, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Lionel Richie & the Commodores, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, the Marvelettes, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Teena Marie and the Temptations, ruled the airwaves and unified all races of music listeners.
No other record company in history has exerted such an enormous influence on both the style and substance of popular music and culture, according to MotownMuseum.org.
When the Egyptian Theatre, 328 Main St., presents the Motown Sounds revue this weekend, it will celebrate this music.
The concert, which is a Big Easy Entertainment production, will feature the music of the Temptations, the Supremes, the Jacksons, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye.
Performances will be Friday, June 7, through Sunday, June 9. Friday and Saturday evening curtains are at 8 p.m. There will be a Saturday matinee at 5 p.m. Sunday’s show will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets range from $29 though $50 and they can be purchased at http://www.parkcityshows.com .
