Each year the Sundance Film Festival shows its appreciation to Utah and Summit County locals with free Best of Fest and Townie Tuesday screenings.
The Best of Fest screenings are offered to all locals and the Townie Tuesday screenings are exclusively shown to Summit County locals, because they are the ones who are most affected by the festival that runs this year from Jan. 17 through Jan. 27, said Heidi Bruce, manager, ticketing operations for Sundance Film Festival.
The Townie Tuesday screenings, which will be Cherien Dabis' "May in the Summer" from the U.S. Dramatic Competition category and Sarah Polley's "Stories We Tell" from the Spotlight category, will be screened on Tuesday, Jan. 22. "May in the Summer" will be shown at the Redstone Theater at Kimball Junction at 7 p.m., and "Stories We Tell" will be shown at the Park City Library Theater at 8:30 p.m.
"There has been a lot of interest in both of those films, so I think the locals will enjoy them," Bruce said.
The Best of Fest films, which will be of the yet-to-be-announced top festival award winners, will be screened on Monday, Jan. 28.
"We never know what they are going to be because the awards are given out the Saturday before the screenings, but we post the titles on our website on Sunday and also record them for our customer-service hotline," Bruce said. "So, if people want to know what the screenings are before they take off to the theaters, I would encourage them to call the hotline (435) 776-7878 or visit
Free tickets for both screenings will be available on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13 on a first-come, first-served basis, she said.
"This year, the Townie Tuesday tickets will be handed out the same days as Best of Fest at the Park City box office," Bruce said. "There will not be a separate line."
The Townie Tuesday tickets will only be handed out at the Park City box office at the Gateway, Bruce said.
There is a two-ticket limit per person for each of the Best of Fest screenings and a two ticket-limit total for Townie Tuesday, she said.
"In Park City and Salt Lake, the tickets go very quickly and when they are gone, they are gone and there is nothing the ticket office can do," she said.
The Best of Fest tickets will only be honored at the venues that distribute them, Bruce said.
"That means, the Park City Best of Fest tickets will be good for only the Eccles Center screening and the Salt Lake tickets will only be good for the Rose Wagner screenings," she explained. "The Ogden tickets will be only for the screening at Peery's Egyptian Theater and the tickets handed out at Sundance Resort will only be valid at the Sundance screening screening room."
The Sundance Film Festival's Best of Fest tickets will be available for Utah residents on Saturday, Jan. 12, and Sunday, Jan. 13, at all Sundance main box offices in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and the Sundance Resort, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Townie Tuesday tickets will be available for Summit County residents only at the Park City box office at the Gateway on Saturday, Jan. 12, and Sunday, Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Townie Tuesday screenings will be held at the Redstone Cinemas at the Library Center Theatre on Jan. 22. Tickets, which are limited to two per person, are free while they last. For more information, visit http://www.sundance.org/festival/tickets/local-screenings/ .
