Orrin Hatch (R) - Incumbent

I have had the privilege to represent Utah in the United States Senate. During that time I have acquired valuable skills that have allowed me to represent Utah and defend its interests, and it is my hope that Utah voters will send me to Washington on their behalf one more time. I currently serve as the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, and if Republicans take control of the Senate I will be the chairman of this important committee. A Utah Senator as chair of the Senate Finance Committee, which oversees about 60 percent of the budget, ensures that Utah values of fiscal restraint will be represented. It will allow me to continue fighting for Utah by keeping Hill Air Force Base alive and well and continuing to work on land and resource issues so important throughout our state. Read More.

I was raised in Salt Lake City and spent my summers in Castle Dale on my grandpa's farm, learning the values of hard work and service. I graduated from Skyline High School and the University of Utah. Hired during my junior year of college, I spent 34 years with IBM Corporation managing worldwide teams of employees. Motivated to improve education, I was elected to the Utah State Senate in 1990 receiving over 60% of the vote. I served for three terms, with eight of my ten years as the Senate minority leader. I am a former member of the Intermountain Healthcare Board and the Salt Lake City Olympic Organizing Committee and a trustee to the Board for Sutter Health. Read More.

Rob Bishop (R) - Incumbent

Before coming to Congress, I was a public school teacher for almost 30 years and I served 16 years in the Legislature, including a term as Speaker. I am a father of five, a husband, and life-long resident of the First District. I was born and raised in Davis County, graduated from the University of Utah, served a church mission in Germany, and live with my family in Brigham City. In Congress, I have a spot on the Armed Services Committee where I am proud to defend our troops and secure funding for our military installations, like Hill Air Force Base, not just because of the jobs, but because they are so critical to our national defense. I am also the Chairman of the Public Lands subcommittee where I fight for good management of our lands. Read More.

Donna McAleer (D)

When I was 17, I made the decision to serve our country. I graduated from West Point and was commissioned an officer in the US Army. For me it was a simple decision, I believe in our country, the freedoms we hold and the opportunities afforded to us all. When I left the military, I carried with me the ideals of integrity, service, and commitment to a mission. The oath I took does not expire. Congress has lost focus on its mission. Recent polls show Congress' approval rating is at 10%. Voters are tired of legislation in Congress being held hostage by partisan rhetoric. The issues facing our state and our Nation are complex and require legislators with diverse education, relevant experience, and mission focus. Read More.

I have served my community as a city councilman for 8 years, worked in Boy Scouts for 20 years, served on county boards for over 20 years and served as State Senator for 8 years. We need a doctor in the State Senate, that's why I stepped up to run. This is a community wide conversation in people's living rooms and at their kitchen tables where I'm listening to what folks want changed. Having run a small business, like a lot of Doctors, I also think we deserve a State Senator that takes constituent relations in a serious and active way. A physician's career represents an institutional knowledge of how healthcare policy works in the real world. People are looking to our elected leaders for a little more common sense legislation. In my lifetime I have worked for fortune 500 companies in Aerospace and Energy, have been a part of government serving on a community council (currently chair of ECCC) and have been a business owner for 30 years. I have a unique ability to solve problems by looking at situations with a 360-degree view. On that subject, putting the same candidates in the Utah State Legislature year after year, is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. I will limit my stay to two terms, as most of what I have to offer will come out in those four years. Read More.

If you are someone who doesn t usually vote for Republicans, let me try to convince you why this is one election in which you should choose this particular Republican to represent Summit County in the Legislature. Many people like you and I decry the business-as-usual of the Republican-dominated Legislature: Campaign contributions from corporations and lobbyists. Closed-door caucuses. Extreme ideological agendas. As an outspoken reformer within the Republican caucus of the Legislature, I am having a huge impact on the way our state does business. I have challenged my fellow legislators to adopt my stance as the only member of the House of Representatives who does not accept campaign contributions from lobbyists, special interest groups or corporations. I have introduced legislation to require open caucuses. Read More.

While serving on the Basin Planning Commission from 1996 to 2005, my colleagues and I heard a constant plea to keep growth from ruining what makes this place special. We responded by reducing densities 10 fold, clustering development away from sensitive lands, and concentrating growth in town, village and resort centers. The hard zoning we created gave people a sense of security and certainty. After I and other long tenured members of the Commission and staff left our positions, the County began making decisions based on what seemed expedient in the moment instead of the fully vetted principles in the General Plan and Code. My husband and I chose Summit County 25 years ago to live and raise our family. I have been deeply involved as a parent, volunteer, employee, recreation enthusiast, and public servant. I want to use my experience and passion for Summit County to preserve what brought us here so many years ago. After working in corporate sales and as Executive Director of the Park City Education Foundation, I was elected to the Park City Board of Education in 2002. I served for two terms, including four years as President, managing a $50+ million budget. We developed a comprehensive strategic plan involving community, staff and students, completed a major capital projects plan with no tax increase or additional bonding and built Park City s first LEED certified building. I am a strong advocate for citizen responsibility and involvement in the community. I am seeking office to give the county a choice for Seat C. With Duane Schmidt stepping out of the race, we need a fiscally responsible choice for the county council. You can WRITE IN SMITH. I was the executive assistant to Robert L. Rice, philanthropist, and office manager for Rice Industries, overseeing the accounting and budgets for 32 corporations in 7 different states for 18 years. I decided to run four years ago because I believe that providing a great education to our children is a major priority. We have a great history of providing a first-rate education in the District. I wanted to give back to the community and hopefully be a positive influence on the direction of future education in Park City. I believe that I bring a solid background in both financial skills and management. These are skills that have served me well in my first term. Read More.

I would like to contribute as the district restores national recognition, financial stability and improves employee relations; and that is why I am running for the board of education. My background and experiences, along with my formal education in the field (Masters of Education), gives me the tools to be an effective member of the board of education. My expertise in employee relations and compensation, developed while working with major publishing companies, governments and in my own business, is relevant as 86% of the district s expenses are employee related. This background also relates to the district s need to rebuild employee morale following the uncertainties of the budget crisis. Through my experience working with non-profit organizations, I have made tough, strategy-focused decisions for mission-driven organizations with limited funding. Read More.

I am passionate about education! As a mother of 3, one graduate of Park City High School, the current student body President of Park City High School and an eighth grader at Treasure Mountain Junior High, I have had numerous opportunities to be involved with the schools over the years. In 2011, as a result of the $5 million budget deficit, I was appointed by the current school board to be on a special budget advisory committee to evaluate the PCSD budget. In my professional background, I have critically evaluated thousands of financial statements to determine credit worthiness. As it is a board of education election year for my district, I determined that it is time for someone with my connection to the schools and financial background to run. Read More.

Seven years on school CCs has given me experience with boards, district policy as well as the Utah Land Trust. I am familiar with what is going on in education at the Capitol and the USOE.
