My last days in Park City seem empty. Most of my classmates have already moved on to college, propelled into the challenges of life after high school. But as I am sensing the loss of one group of talented students, another class of seniors is rising.
It's impossible not to notice the beginning of another school year because our entire community is tapped into the education of its young members. Park City High School is regarded as the best public high school in the state, and after experiencing the profound support of our community, it's no secret why. From local businesses and government to nonprofit organizations to the dedicated faculty and staff at our schools, there is someone ready to provide the best opportunities for our kids in every corner of this small town.
The opportunities for Park City students to get involved are limitless. I am blown away by the willingness of Park City leaders to give students real responsibilities in professional settings. For me, the mentorship of various community members and the experience I gained in the workplace was priceless. By reaching out to community leaders, I created curriculum for a supplementary math program, I interacted with patients at Park City Medical Center, and I voiced my opinions regularly in The Park Record. Each time, I was treated with respect that fostered my productivity and eagerness to learn.
While there are abundant educational opportunities outside the Park City School District sphere, students also distinguish themselves within school-sponsored extracurricular programs. These activities would never exist without the endless generosity of local organizations and private donors. The depth and breadth of a Park City education is unparalleled at schools of comparable size, and the impact of community funding makes that distinction.
Perhaps one of the greatest community investments of all are Community Scholarships. Each spring, scholarships are awarded by local organizations and businesses to further students' education after high school. Never have I been so humbled by our community's high regard for education than at the Community Scholarships award ceremony as I watched almost a third of my class accept scholarships to put towards college.
I am taking the next step in my education, but it wouldn't have happened without the help and guidance of the Park City community. I would like thank those individuals who took a chance on me, and all the Parkites who contribute to the culture of education that makes our town so vibrant. As my class moves on, there will be another class of gifted students to take our place. I know that the Park City community will be there to support them.
