During the holiday season, we often find the strong resolution to look outside of ourselves and give back to those in our community. At Zermatt and Homestead Resorts, we have also felt this great need to give back to a community that has supported us for more than 100 years.

This season, the two resorts are partnering with Wasatch County Children's Justice Center to collect clothes, toys and nonperishable food for families in need this Christmas. The emphasis of this partnership is especially focused on fulfilling the needs of the children. Now through Dec. 23, the 'Food for Fudge' charity program offers Homestead Fudge as a thank-you gift to those making any sort of donation.

We are eager to establish this as a well-known charitable program within our community and involve all those who can afford to help. We also want to spread the word of such an important fundraiser so we can better serve the needs of the children. Because it is a Children's Justice Center, all donations--but especially children's clothes, blankets, diapers, underwear or socks--are in need.

As we all know, there are many benefits to donating to local charities. We could probably write entire entries on the benefits of giving back to your local communities. Here are our top three reasons why giving locally is beneficial in all regards.

The first is for your family.

Any time of the year, it is good to show our children and family members the various ways we can show patriotism and support to our state and community. Giving to local charities, such as the Children's Justice Center, helps those around us that may directly interact with our family every day. It also helps to build a stronger economy and a safer neighborhood. By setting this example, we are teaching hope and service rather than fear and distrust.

The second benefit is for you. The undeniable positive feeling that surrounds serving and giving to others is hard to compare. This program initially started with our employees wanting to give to a local charity. This is the first year the resorts have officially partnered with CJC because we wanted to make the program bigger, better and more accessible to community members.

The third benefit is for the community itself. Those in our community shape the way we and others view our home. By working as neighbors and friends to help lift those around us, it undeniably benefits us all. Often we may not realize who around us needs help. For example, our children may sit by and play with another child who is directly supported by an organization such as CJC.

During this holiday season, we invite you to freely give to those around you by joining in the Food for Fudge program. For more information, visit http://zermattresort.com/resort-events.
