Legalization of same-sex marriages is overdue
I am pleased to report that since Utah's Amendment 3 was overturned my parents' 25-year marriage has not spontaneously crumbled -- because the only thing that has even a remote possibility of reigning harm to their commitment is March Madness. And, fire has yet to rain down upon us to seek retribution for the destruction of the American family. Truth is, the only thing served was a final recognition that we all share the same rights and dignity under the law. Then it was back to business as usual.
I have heard whisperings of a possible overturn of the federal judge's ruling, and that couples seeking marriages licenses are being turned away in several Utah counties. As someone who has lived my whole life under the beehive flag, this disappoints me. I love Utah, and I consider myself tremendously blessed to have grown up in a place so touched by beauty and mountain design. Hate and discrimination are a black mark to this wonderful slab of land we call home. So, let's start anew, right here right now, and see that this Christmas, lights will shine a little brighter and happiness will be spread a little farther, because families/couples everywhere are being granted a long overdue legitimization by the law. It's about time.
KPCW thanks outgoing board member
As the year ends, I'd like to recognize and thank Joe Wrona for the tireless work he's put in as a volunteer on the KPCW Board of Trustees. He came to the board six years ago and donated countless hours of legal work dealing with FCC matters and any number of conundrums that required the skilled hands of a savvy attorney. Three years ago he became Board Chairman and helped guide KPCW back onto the sustainable path where we now find ourselves.
I can truly say that KPCW has never sounded as good, nor been as financially stable as it is today after several years of tough economic times. Joe is a leader and made a positive difference here, a difference you can hear daily as we continually strive to improve our content and delivery to you, our listeners, neighbors and friends.
