Beat the Call raising funds
January 16, 2013
The Park City Education Foundation is calling on parents to "Beat the Call," an annual program preceding a phone-a-thon scheduled for later this month. Beat the Call is an opportunity to donate to PCEF, the local nonprofit the raises funds for the Park City School District, before calls are made to every parent in the district.
Beat the Call will run through the end of the week, and the nonprofit is asking for a $180 donation, a dollar for every day of the school year.
"You can donate during registration, during the Red Apple Gala or during Live PC Give PC," said Jennifer Billow, the Events, Marketing, and Communications Manager. "This is the last time to donate if you don’t want us to call you, it is beating the call."
"That’s how this all started," she added. "Since then, it has turned it into a contest for schools."
Contests are taking place with Beat the Call, an opportunity for classes to win parties sponsored by Papa John’s Pizza and Winder Farms, awarded to classes that raise the most individual donations. The four elementary schools in the district and the middle school and junior high school will be competing not only for the most donations, but also the most in dollars raised by the event.
The school that pulls in the highest dollar amount will receive a $2,000 unrestricted grant, an offer added to Beat the Call last year. The first school to receive the grant was Trailside Elementary School, which used the funds for student and teacher anti-bullying training.

"It is really exciting, and the schools get competitive," Billow said. "Each school wants to win that grant. So we start seeing email blasts to parents, then we see donations come in online, and a lot comes in every day."
"We appreciate any donation," she added.
Results will be released early next week. The Park City Education Foundation Phone-A-Thon will run from Monday, Jan. 28 through Thursday, Jan. 31. To donate to PCEF, send donations in with students, visit the PCEF website or drop off checks to school main offices or the PCEF offices located in the Park City High School.
