There were 122 people who sought the Park City manager position in 2003, the last time there was an opening.
The recruiter tapped by Mayor Dana Williams and the Park City Council to assist in the hiring process has said the number of applications could fall sharply.
The recruiter, Sacramento, Calif.-based Bobbi Peckham, said recently people decided against moving jobs during the recession and the pool of public sector candidates has been reduced through retirements and fewer people choosing government careers.
She said fewer people are submitting their names for city manager positions. Peckham predicted the field could be as low as between 60 and 80 candidates. If the number is at the low end of the range, there could be approximately half the number of applications as compared to 2003.
City Hall is paying Peckham's firm, Peckham & McKenney, $17,500 plus expenses up to $7,500 to conduct the recruitment. The deadline for the candidates is Oct. 22.
