A section of Deer Valley Drive is scheduled to be closed during the daytime hours on Monday and Tuesday as crews continue upgrades to the road and the waterworks system.
Deer Valley Drive between the Old Town roundabout and Sunnyside Drive will be closed to traffic between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on each day. The closure involves an approximately 1,500-foot stretch of road.
Matt Cassel, the Park City engineer and the City Hall staffer who is overseeing the project, said the closure is required as the workers start to replace water lines. He said the closure next week is expected to have the largest impact of the project. Cassel said one additional road closure is possible later, but details have not been set.
Traffic detours on Monday and Tuesday will be onto Mellow Mountain Road and Aerie Drive. Cassel said drivers could also use Royal Street, Marsac Avenue and Rossi Hill Drive.
"This is not going to be an easy shutdown," the city engineer acknowledged.
The work on Monday, meanwhile, will also involve an interruption of water service in a swath of lower Deer Valley, including the Deer Valley Drive corridor along the route of the roadwork. The interruption will also involve buildings on a small section of the east side of Main Street.
Water service will be interrupted starting at 7:30 a.m. It will return later that day, but a time has not been set.
The overall project, pegged at $3.4 million, includes building bus turnouts, new streetlights, the replacement of a section of sidewalk, a new layer of asphalt on the road and slightly modifying the Deer Valley Drive side of the Old Town roundabout.
