A Park City police officer pulled over a person riding a skateboard along Park Avenue earlier in May after seeing the rider weaving across traffic lanes, the Police Department said.

The person was stopped on Thursday, May 9 at 10:37 p.m. riding northbound on the 1000 block of Park Avenue, just north of bottom of Main Street.

Phil Kirk, a police captain, said the officer who stopped the skateboarder warned the person to be safer while riding.

"For his own safety, we advised him not to" weave across traffic lanes, Kirk said, calling the practice dangerous.

It is rare for a police officer in Park City to stop a skateboarder. The sport is popular in Park City, with many people who snowboard in the winter turning to skateboards in the warmer months. The City Park skate park sits close to where the person was stopped on May 9.

Park City police officers in recent years have also pulled over a series of bicyclists for violating traffic laws.
