The Park City American Legion post has scheduled a Memorial Day ceremony at the Park City Cemetery on Monday to mark the day when the United States honors its war dead.

The ceremony is set to start at 10 a.m. at the Kearns Boulevard cemetery, the site of numerous Memorial Day events in past years.

Kris Smith, the post commander in Park City, expects to deliver remarks. The national anthem will be played as will the solemn notes of taps. Smith said veterans will be given time to speak as well.

The event could last up to an hour depending on how many veterans speak, Smith said. He said he anticipates public officials from the area will attend.

"I think a lot of people have lost sensitivity to what it is. They've looked at it as a great three-day weekend," Smith said.

Past Memorial Day ceremonies in Park City have drawn crowds of mixed sizes to the cemetery.
