The Park City Public Works Department later in the summer plans to tear up the road surface on a series of streets and then put down a fresh layer of pavement as part of City Hall's annual maintenance plan.
The Park City Council recently authorized four contracts worth a little more than $574,000 combined for the work. The largest, for milling and pavement overlays, is pegged at $375,469.72 and went to Staker Parson Companies. The company was the low bidder among six that sought the contract.
A report submitted to Mayor Dana Williams and the Park City Council beforehand indicated 4,958 tons of asphalt will be put down. The sections of streets where the asphalt will be put are:
The process involves a crew tearing up the asphalt on the street and then putting down a new one.
Another one of the contracts, meanwhile, went to Morgan Pavement to put down 34,558 square yards of slurry seals. Some of the sections of streets that will receive slurry seals include those on Sunny Slopes Drive, Eagle Way, Venus Court and Round Valley Way.
The Public Works Department selects different sections of road annually for the maintenance. Officials say the work extends the life of the roads. The report indicated the cost this year is down a little from 2012.
"Pavement repairs can be done inexpensively using sealing and overlay techniques. Proper pavement management should minimize the need for costly pavement reconstruction," the report to the elected officials said.
The work is anticipated to start in July and be completed by the end of September.
