Stein Eriksen, Deer Valley Resort’s director of skiing, was expected to be discharged from a Salt Lake Valley hospital on Tuesday, Deer Valley said in a statement.

He had been hospitalized since June 26. Deer Valley said he was admitted to the hospital to be treated for complications from a urinary tract infection.

"Stein has recovered, is in good condition and looking forward to getting home," Coleen Reardon, the director of marketing at Deer Valley, said in a message to The Park Record.

She said the Eriksen family thanks the doctors and staff who treated him at Intermountain Medical Center and appreciates the support he has received. He had spent several days in an intensive-care unit before being moved to a room.

Eriksen is 85 years old and lives in Thaynes Canyon. He is the longtime director of skiing at Deer Valley. He won the gold medal in the giant slalom competition at the 1952 Winter Olympics and three gold medals at the World Ski Championships two years later. He also is seen as one of the originators of freestyle skiing.
