Dan Martin acknowledges that he may never know what caused his daughter's car to drift into oncoming traffic on Interstate 80 last Saturday. All he can say is "I have never felt so much hurt in my life."
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, on Saturday, July 21, a Mazda sedan driven by 29-year-old Kallie Nelson, of Henefer, veered across the median on Interstate 80 near Echo and collided with a Mercury SUV driven by Judith Nethercott, age 65, of Riverton, Wyoming.
Both women were killed in the crash.
Martin said his daughter was on her way to a family funeral in Evanston when something caused her to drive off the highway.
"She was my little baby girl. She had a deep love of people, especially little kids," Martin recalled, adding that Kallie left behind a nine-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
Martin said his daughter's husband Colt Nelson had stayed home to take care of the children. "Kallie idolized her husband and the kids," he said.
According to Martin, Colt Nelson works on a road crew for the Summit County Public Works Department.
Kallie Nelson worked as a dental assistant in Coalville where a coworker said, "She was a sweetheart to everyone. She is loved and missed."
Funeral services for Kallie Nelson will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 27 at the Walker Mortuary in Morgan. Donations to help the family may be made in Kallie Nelson's name at either branch of the First National Bank of Morgan in Morgan or Evanston.
Judith Nethercott worked in the financial aid office at Central Wyoming College for 23 years before retiring last October. According to her family, she loved working with the students there.
In her obituary they describe her as "a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who always put her family first." Nethercott had three children and five grandchildren.
Also according to Nethercott's family, "She had a remarkable faith in God that gave her an incredible ability to press on in the face of great adversity. All who knew Judy appreciated her warmth, kindness, wit, courage and compassion."
Funeral services for Judith Nethercott will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran School, or a charity of the donors' choice, in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main Street, Riverton, Wyo., 82501.
