A semi truck traveling east on Interstate 80 at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, lost control on the wet roads and crashed near mile post 153 in Silver Creek Canyon.
The semi jack-knifed and collided with the concrete barriers on the left side of the freeway, taking out about 10 barriers. The fuel tank of the semi was ruptured during the crash and spilled roughly 100 gallons of diesel fuel on I-80.
According to Utah Highway Patrol Corp. Todd Johnson, the crashed semi blocked all eastbound lanes of I-80 Eastbound for about 3 hours while heavy wreckers removed the semi and trailer. It was estimated that the road reopened at 6:10 p.m. after causing traffic to back up on the Interstate between Kimball Junction and Quinns Junction. The driver of the semi was not injured.
