The Park City Police Department determined that fireworks were the source of a series of loud noises in Prospector in the overnight hours early on Monday.
Police Chief Wade Carpenter said someone dropped fireworks into a metal drum, causing an echoing effect.
Carpenter received a report on Tuesday about the noises, which were heard at approximately 3 a.m. on Monday. He said the police were told people heard several noises, perhaps three or four. Carpenter said the Police Department received a few complaints just afterward.
He said the people reported the noises came from the vicinity of the Rail Trail, which hugs the edge of Prospector.
Carpenter said early in the investigation officers found debris in the road at the scene. The police chief said the officers did not find shrapnel or projectiles.
