At roughly 2:30 p.m. on Friday, a pickup truck towing a camper eastbound on U.S. 40 crashed at mile marker 8. According to Utah Highway Patrol Corp. Todd Johnson, the camp trailer had begun to whip back and forth and the truck lost control and rolled several times. The trailer detached from the truck and a four-wheeler was thrown from the truck bed.
Two adults, a male and a female, were inside the truck. The female was pinned in the cab of the vehicle and was pulled from the truck. She sustained major injuries from the crash and was flown via air ambulance to the University of Utah Hospital. According to Johnson, the woman was Kathi Galusha, 54, from Salt Lake City. She passed away on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 18. The male driver sustained minor cuts and bruises and was transported by vehicle to the same hospital.
Two lanes were blocked due to the accident and traffic was diverted on the eastbound off ramp at the Mayflower intersection.
