Christmas tree permits on sale

The Heber-Kamas Ranger District will be selling Christmas tree permits this weekend only. The permits will be sold this Friday, Nov. 1, and Saturday, Nov. 2, at Soldier Hollow Lodge, 2002 Olympic Drive in Midway, according to a release from the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

Non-transferable wristbands will be given out to the first 1,000 individuals beginning at 6 a.m. both days. Those with wristbands must purchase their tree permit in person on the same day they receive their wristband between 8 a.m. and noon on both days, the release stated.

Tree permits will be issued one per adult (16 years or older) and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the release. Permits are $10 and are for designated cutting areas in the south end of the Heber-Kamas Ranger District.

According to the Ranger District, only subalpine fir trees that are 20 feet tall or shorter are allowed to be cut and removed. Trees can be cut up until Dec. 24 and must be tagged prior to moving them.
