A Coloradoan has been selected as City Hall’s next chief building official.

Chad Root, who holds the same position in Mountain Village, Colo., is scheduled to start work at the Marsac Building on April, 28, according to a prepared statement released by City Hall on Friday.

Root will succeed Ron Ivie, who had been the chief building official since 1980. He retired in mid-2010.

Mountain Village is a high-altitude, slopeside community neighboring Telluride. Root has been the chief building official in Mountain Village since 2007.

The City Hall statement said Root was picked from a field of 52 candidates.

City Manager Tom Bakaly said in the statement Root’s experience includes working with mining hazards, preparing for wildfires and handling environmental and water quality issues.
