Prosecutors have charged a former college basketball player who once played in the Final Four with rape and kidnapping stemming from what court documents describe as an attack at Stein Eriksen Lodge.

Edward Raymond Dupay, 29, is charged with three first-degree felonies for aggravated kidnapping, rape and aggravated sexual assault.

Dupay was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail June 19 after he attacked a 28-year-old woman in Deer Valley, according to court papers prosecutors filed July 3.

"Mr. Dupay stated it got ‘a little rough’ but denied raping her," charging documents filed in 3rd District Court state. "He stated, ‘how can you rape someone you love?’"

The alleged victim was sobbing when investigators arrived at 7700 Stein Way.

"She stated to those present that she was frightened of Edward Dupay," charging documents state.

The victim had had about a two-year relationship with Dupay, according to prosecutors.

"[She] stated that Mr. Dupay took her by force and raped her on the floor of Room 119-2," charging documents state. "Prior to raping [her,] Mr. Dupay kicked and struck [her] numerous times."

The woman had bruises on her arm, shoulder and thigh, scratches on her back and a swollen left eye, investigators claim, adding that the victim also suffered two fractured ribs.

"Additionally, there was dried blood around her lips," charging documents state.

She accused Dupay of hitting or kicking her about 150 times.

"Mr. Dupay forced her under the desk in the room and would not let her leave and told her that if she attempted to leave he would catch her and kill her and her family," according to Summit County prosecutor Paul Christensen.

Dupay reportedly posted $40,000 bail and was released from jail June 19 at about 6 a.m.

Dupay started as a guard for the Florida Gators when the school lost to Michigan State in the NCAA championship game in 2000, a Florida spokeswoman said, adding that Dupay played basketball at the school from 1999 to 2001.

Dupay has an initial appearance slated July 14 at 8:30 a.m. at Silver Summit Third District Court.
