Irish Music Festival slated for Aug. 1

Submitted by Park City Concerts

Park City is going green this summer kelly green! It’s the inaugural Irish Music Festival, a full day of music and fun for the entire family, and it all happens on Sunday, Aug. 1, at Deer Valley’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.

Headlining the event will be The Young Dubliners, the top touring Irish band in America. Joining the "Dubs" will be two of the best Irish bands in Utah, Swagger and The Wailing O’Sheas. Filling out the day are The California Celts from Los Angeles and the recently reunited Slaymaker Hill.

The Festival will span eight hours and will include performances by the award-winning Crawford Irish Dancers, The Utah Pipe Band, a "vendor village" and a children’s area where the kids can enjoy arts and crafts, face painting, games, races and a mashed potato-eating contest. Deer Valley will prepare a special Irish menu and offer a beer garden throughout the day.

The event is the result of a collaboration between Park City Concerts and Rick Butler, the lead singer of Swagger. "We were doing one of the spring concerts at The Canyons when Toby Martin from Park City Concerts approached me with the idea of an all-day Irish music event," says Butler. "It is something I have wanted to do for years, so we jumped right in."

"I have had Swagger play for me at The Canyons, Deer Valley, the Newpark Amphitheater and the stage at Quarry Village, and every time there is nothing but enthusiasm from the audience for the music and the band," says Martin. "It was serendipity that brought us The Young Dubliners, and we couldn’t be happier, but the event is so much more than one band. It is a day-long celebration in one of the most beautiful settings in the state."

The Festival has several sponsors, including Guinness and Miller Lite, Sport Kilts, Piper Down and The Hibernian Society.
