Miners soccer team may be best yet

With a roster stacked with talent, the Park City High School boys soccer team may take a nod from their female counterparts (Miners 2005-06 girls quads were 3A State soccer champions) and take their talent all the way to the state title. According to Miners head coach Mike Guetschow, the excitement is already building.

The boys started out what could be a magical year by beating Hillcrest in a road game on Monday. The Miners shut out Hillcrest 3-0.

The Miners had a scoreless first half after an offsides penalty. In the second half, it was the AJ Gitlin show. Gitlin scored all three of the Miners points. The first two were off of assists from Reid Baker, one 25 minutes into the second half and the other three minutes later. The final goal was scored off of assists by Nick Gunderson and Steve Hart. Goalkeeper Ryan Lynsky recorded the shutout.

The junior varsity squad also started the year off on the right foot, pitching their own shutout. Tom Gold scored three goals, and Murray Hawker and Austin Stevens contributed the others.

The Miners will be in action on Wednesday, March 8 at Alta High School in Sandy at 3:30 p.m. Alta is currently raked No. 2 in the 5A division.
