Montage site evacuated during gas leak

by Jay Hamburger OF THE RECORD STAFF

A gas leak Wednesday morning forced the evacuation of the Montage construction site in Deer Valley, the Park City Fire District says.

Details about the leak were not immediately available. A natural-gas scent could be smelled in the immediate area.

The Montage is under construction in Empire Pass, near Deer Valley Resort’s Empire lodge.

Chuck English, who directs mountain operations for Deer Valley Resort, says the gas leak required the temporary closure of a road to the Montage construction site.

He also says Deer Valley shut down the nearby Walker ski run for about an hour. The Empire Express lift, with its bottom terminal near the Montage site, did not stop operating during the gas leak.

The Fire District sent two fire engines and an ambulance to the site at 10:40 a.m.
