North Summit Braves rundown
Swimming
North Summit’s swim team placed third at the Wasatch swim meet on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The Braves placed third out of three teams with a total of 75 points. David Horie took second place in the men’s 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.97 seconds. Ali Birk placed third in the women’s 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.05 seconds. The women’s relay team of Ali Birk, Erica Birk, Bradie Jones and BreeAnn Greenhood took second in the 200-yard freestyle.
The next swim meet is the Region 10 Invitational at Wasatch on Nov. 11.
Volleyball
Utah Valley University in Orem hosted the state 2A volleyball tournament on Thursday, Oct. 29 and Friday, Oct. 30. The Lady Braves finished in sixth place out of 16 teams.
The Lady Braves defeated Parowan 3-0 in the first round of the tournament. They faced Grand in the winners’ bracket but were defeated 3-1.
They went on to defeat Enterprise 3-0. The win brought the girls into the fifth-place match which they lost 3-1.
Winter sports tryouts
Tryouts for North Summit athletes interested in participating in winter sports begin on Monday, Nov. 9. UHSAA eligibility forms must be signed and handed to the office before tryouts begin. Interested athletes should contact the following head coaches: wrestling — Rene Potter, boys’ basketball — Jerre Holmes, and girls’ basketball — Ross Pace. Yance Fawcett and Adam Horie are coaching the swim team. They started started practicing on Oct. 5. Students interested in participating should talk with Fawcett.
