Ol’ Miner Carwash now an auto center

by Andrew Kirk, OF THE RECORD STAFF

Ol’ Miner Car Wash on Bonanza Drive is now Ol’ Miner Auto Center with quick lube services, light auto repair by the people at Mercer Automotive, and yes, car washes.

It’s been a tough autumn for the car wash next to White Pine Touring. Road construction made it hard to reach, and dusty and muddy roads made washing futile.

Owner and Summit County developer Mark J. Fischer said he also got tired of the seasonality of its success.

Something Park City has been missing within its city limits for years is someone offering an oil change.

converting two of the car wash bays and partnering with Valvoline, Fischer is now offering oil changes and a dozen other services on Bonanza Drive.

Valvoline is a recognized company with a good brand that is small in Utah but looking to expand. Fischer said Valvoline pushed him to offer valley prices in Park City.

"They were excited to come here," he said. "Now there’s no need to go to Salt Lake City to save $20."

Jeremy Linville has been brought in to manage the shop, which is officially known as a Valvoline Express Care. That name denotes their independence and ability to set prices and offer services that will best serve the local community, Linville explained.

Those services currently include four options for an oil change, oil system cleaning, tire rotation, air filters, wipers and blade replacement, transmission service, cooling system service, fuel system service, fuel filters, manual transmission drainage and fill, differential service and serpentine belt service.

In about a month, the space in the building directly behind Ol’ Miners will open as an auto repair garage. Formerly occupied by a frame shop, the garage will be a cooperative effort with Mercer Automotive.

Richard Mercer’s shop on Iron Horse Drive has seen an excess of business lately. The car wash has been operating under capacity. By working together, Fischer said he’s able to better utilize his buildings while Mercer is able to serve more clients.

Mercer’s shop on Iron Horse will do "heavy" repair like engine rebuilds, and the garage behind the car wash will be for "light" work, he said. It will also offer state inspections.

"On cloudy days the car wash did zero service. Now, we’ll likely get busy when the weather is poor. It’s logical, and the Valvoline people agree," Fischer said.
