Empire Avenue roadwork, delayed last year, restarts shortly
April 2, 2013
Crews are preparing to restart work on the redo of Empire Avenue in mid-April with plans to finish the delayed project in the middle of the summer.
The work was originally anticipated to be completed in early November of 2012, in one construction year. Delays mounted, though, upsetting people who live in the neighborhood and Park City leaders.
Matt Cassel, the Park City engineer and the staffer who has monitored the work on behalf of City Hall, said the crews anticipate mobilizing the week of April 8 followed by the restart of the work on April 15.
He said completion is anticipated by July 5. If there is good weather, the work could be finished in June, Cassel said. The remaining work on the approximately $2.8 million project includes:
People who live along Empire Avenue were displeased with the progress made in 2012. Much of the anger was focused on Condie Construction Company, the general contractor on the project. City Hall was also unhappy with the delay in completion until 2013.
An open house is scheduled on Wednesday for people interested in the upcoming work. It is slated in Room 201 of the Park City Library and Education Center from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
City Hall officials and a consultant hired by the municipal government to assist with the work are anticipated at the event. Cassel was unsure whether Condie Construction Company will be represented.
