Old Town street closure scheduled
August 22, 2014
A stretch of Norfolk Avenue is scheduled to be closed to traffic starting on Wednesday as crews continue to install a water pipeline.
The closure is expected to impact Norfolk Avenue between the intersection with Crescent Tram and Park City Mountain Resort’s Town runs starting on Wednesday and lasting approximately one week. Norfolk Avenue between 8th Street and 9th Street will follow with a closure also lasting upward of one week.
The crews will install the pipeline and return later to repave the trench and put down slurry seal, according to a flier outlining the work.
People who live on the impacted sections of Norfolk Avenue will be required to park elsewhere and walk home, the flier says.
"We recognize that a full closure represents a great inconvenience to residents and did not arrive at this solution lightly. A full closure will allow work to be completed within a month’s time. Alternately, this project would take many months to complete through this section," a list of frequently asked questions about the project says.
The list also indicates people will not have access to their driveways since it will be a full closure.
"When work is complete each evening, a small emergency lane will be cleared. No parking will be permitted in the emergency lane and any cars found parked in the area will need to be towed," it says.
A 2.3-mile water pipeline is under construction that will link the Judge Tunnel water source in Empire Canyon to the Spiro water treatment plant in Thaynes Canyon. Some of the work has been seen on a highly visible hillside overlooking Old Town from the west.
