SUV crashes into lower Deer Valley condo, damage extensive
September 10, 2013
A sport utility vehicle crashed into a condominium in lower Deer Valley on Monday after rolling down a street, causing extensive damage to the residence.
Rick Ryan, a Park City Police Department captain, said the Nissan Pathfinder was parked inside a garage facing south on Coalition View Court. Ryan said the driver had loaded the vehicle with recyclables, left to go inside to grab an address and saw that the vehicle was gone when he returned. The driver was certain he had put the vehicle in park before he left to get the address, Ryan said.
The driver noticed there was damage to nearby landscaping and then saw the vehicle had crashed into the condominium, he said. The condominium is located on Deer Valley Loop.
At some point, the vehicle turned 180 degrees, with the front of the vehicle hitting the condominium, Ryan said.
The vehicle was unoccupied and no one was inside the condominium. The vehicle came to rest leaning toward the driver’s side. The front few feet of the vehicle appeared to be inside the condominium.
Ryan said the damage to the condominium "appeared fairly substantial." The Park City Building Department was summoned to assess the damage.
Ryan said the investigation is continuing.
