Snowy weather causes series of accidents, slide-offs in Park City,

The Park City Police Department over the weekend responded to numerous calls related to the snowy weather as drivers had difficulty during the first significant storm of the winter.

Some of the calls to the police included:

  • A car becoming stuck on King Road close to Norfolk Avenue and the driver complaining about being unable to turn onto Norfolk Avenue. The person was stuck for 45 minutes, the police said. The police received the call at 4:21 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21.
  • A vehicle sliding off Kearns Boulevard close to Park City High School, partially blocking the road, at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday.
  • An accident occurring on the 1400 block of Park Avenue involving a City Hall bus and a truck at 12:17 p.m. on Sunday. The police said nobody was injured.
  • An accident occurring at 10:52 a.m. on Sunday on Deer Valley Drive. The police said the accident involved a sport utility vehicle and a City Hall sidewalk snowplow. Nobody was injured, the police said.
  • A case on Main Street at 12:26 a.m. involving a vehicle that apparently needed to be pulled out of the snow.

    The police typically receive a series of reports about accidents during early snowstorms. Officers suggest drivers slow down when the roads are snowy.

    Other incidents reported to the Police Department last week included:

    On Sunday, Nov. 21 at 10:19 p.m., the police received a complaint about a city bus running a yellow light at the Kearns Boulevard-Monitor Drive intersection. The person told the police the driver was going too fast for the conditions as well.

    At 8:02 p.m., something triggered an alarm at a trailer at the Racquet Club construction site on Little Kate Road. Public police logs did not provide details.

    At 1:58 p.m., graffiti was found on a van on the 1500 block of Kearns Boulevard.

    At 12 p.m., the police received a complaint of skis being stolen from the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue. The skis disappeared in the afternoon of the day before.

    The Police Department handled what was reported as a suspected intoxication case on the 400 block of Main Street at 1:13 a.m. The man found a friend and left, the police said.

    On Saturday, Nov. 20 at 11:11 p.m., the police received a call about loud cracks that sounded like they could be gunshots. The call came from Kearns Boulevard, but the police discovered the sounds were fireworks set off on nearby Monitor Drive.

    A driver hit a vehicle and then left sometime before 3:33 p.m., with the case occurring at the Park Avenue-9th Street intersection.

    The Police Department handled two suspected drunken driving cases over the course of approximately two hours — with one reported at 2:39 a.m. and one at 12:37 a.m. The one at 2:39 a.m. occurred in the vicinity of the intersection of Prospector Avenue and Poison Creek Lane. The one at 12:37 a.m., meanwhile, was reported on S.R. 224.

    On Friday, Nov. 19 at 8:51 p.m., a man reportedly threw a garbage can on the 2200 block of Monitor Drive.

    The police received a complaint on Nov. 19 about a driver hitting a vehicle and then leaving the scene on Silver Strike Trail. The vehicle that was hit is a pickup truck, and the police were told it was hit within 30 minutes of the call to dispatchers.

    A water line reportedly broke on Deer Valley Drive at approximately 9:51 a.m. Someone told the police the water shot three feet into the air.

    The police warned a student not to skip classes at 7:47 a.m. The student attends Park City High School, the police said.

    A suspected intoxication case was reported on the 300 block of Main Street at 12:51 a.m.

    On Thursday, Nov. 18 at 6:16 p.m., a driver hit a deer on S.R. 224. The police were told the animal survived the collision, but its back legs had been injured.

    A driver hit a vehicle and left on Three Kings Drive, with the police receiving the report at 1:33 p.m. The case occurred sometime the day before.

    Someone lost a purse in a nightclub on the 400 block of Main Street sometime before 10:35 a.m. The police were told the purse might have been stolen.

    On Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 8:15 p.m., the police received a complaint that a garbage can might have been stolen from a residence on Twilight Court. It had been in the backyard, the police were told.

    At 8:55 a.m., graffiti was found on a shed off S.R. 248.

    On Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 10:40 p.m., the police received a complaint from someone on Three Kings Drive about a construction crew being noisy. The person who called told dispatchers the workers were asked to quiet down, but they did not.

    Someone told the police they had been assaulted on the 400 block of Main Street at 9:17 p.m.

    A police officer warned a Park City High School student not to skip classes after the police received a report about a truant student at 7:38 a.m.

    A moose was seen in the road on S.R. 224 at 10:42 p.m.

    On Monday, Nov. 15 at 12:41 p.m., a young person was reportedly detained after being suspected of shoplifting on Sidewinder Drive. The youngster was turned over to a parent.

    The Police Department received a complaint about a driver hitting a vehicle in the China Bridge garage and then leaving the scene. The report was filed at 12:13 p.m., but the vehicle was hit close to midnight the night before.
