Porn probe ends in man’s arrest

Patrick Parkinson, Of the Record staff

An 18-year-old Park City man was arrested Thursday night and faces seven felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after child pornography was found on his computer, the authorities said.

"I knocked on his door and took him into custody at his residence. He was residing with his parents," said Detective Ron Bridge, a spokesman for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. "He was taken into custody without incident."

Shaun Stone-Gerardy was booked into the Summit County jail after a warrant was issued in 3rd District Court for the man’s arrest, Bridge said.

"A five-month investigation was concluded with the arrest of this gentleman," Bridge said. "After his computer was seized, a forensic evaluation was done of his computer. The evidence was brought back and charges were filed."

The suspect provided details to investigators about how the pornography was downloaded to a home computer, according to Bridge.

"It’s a Summit County Sheriff’s Office case in conjunction with the (state) Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force," Bridge said.

Deputies were tipped off about the suspect by investigators at the Office of the Utah Attorney General, he said.

"This is a horrific crime and it is definitely not a victimless crime. We take every one of these cases seriously and we’ll take the appropriate action that is necessary," Bridge said. "These children are victimized every time somebody downloads, possesses, fabricates or distributes child pornography."

Bridge wouldn’t comment on the specific nature of the pornographic images.

"The children were under the age of 18," he said.
