Editor’s note: Deer Valley has released the name of the skier who died Tuesday. Michael S. Leone was from West Palm Beach, Florida.

A skier died on the slopes of Deer Valley on Tuesday after colliding with a tree.

Deer Valley Communications Manager Emily Summers confirmed the fatality saying the victim was skiing on a run off the Wasatch chairlift.

According to Summers, the accident occurred on the Keno above a connecting trail with the nearby ski run Nabob. Keno is classified as intermediate terrain on Deer Valley’s trail map.

A press release from Deer Valley issued later in the afternoon stated, "After rescue efforts by both Ski Patrol and Air Med staff on a 65-year-old male skier from Florida, who was wearing a helmet, proved unsuccessful, he was pronounced dead on the scene."

Citing privacy concerns "and out of respect for the family," Deer Valley representatives declined to release the name of the deceased.
