PCHS baseball fundraiser

The Park City High School boys’ baseball team is having a fundraiser for the spring 2011 season. Meet the new head coach Lou Green and the players shooting for a state title this season. The event is at the Jupiter Bowl bowling alley in the Red Stone area this Saturday March 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. An auction and a cake sale will be conducted with all proceeds going to the team. Prizes are Pitching lesson with Lou Green (former member of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization), Mike Morgan (member of the World Champion Arizona Diamondbacks) and 1-on-1 with Mark Eaton of the Utah Jazz.

PCHS boys’ soccer tryouts

The Park City High School boys’ soccer team is holding tryouts starting next week. Starting Monday, Feb. 28 through March 3, there will be tryouts for students grades 9 through 12. Freshmen and sophomore tryouts are Monday through Wednesday at the PCHS gym. Tuesday and Thursday will be tryouts for juniors and seniors at the Basin Fieldhouse from 3 to 5 p.m. The teams will be announced Thursday afternoon. The Miners’ first game of the season will be March 4 at Judge Memorial.

King of the WasatchThe King of the Wasatch amateur ski and snowboard competition starts Friday at Park City Mountain Resort and will go through Saturday. On March 4 there will be ski slopestyle and snowboard slalom and GS races. March 5 will feature snowboard slopestyle and March 6 will feature ski and snowboard halfpipe competitions.

High Country Fly Fishers

On Wednesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m., High Country Fly Fishers, the Park City Chapter of Trout Unlimited, will be holding their monthly meeting. The meeting will be held upstairs at St Mary’s Catholic Church at the intersection of SR 224 and White Pine Canyon Road in Park City. In addition to their General Business meeting the club will be featuring a presentation by Drake Munson titled "Fly Fishing the Henry’s Fork River". Drake has guided for many years on the Henry’s. The meeting is open to the general public and there is no obligation to join the club. All visitors and guests are welcome. WSS Sports Cup at UOP

The second annual WSS Sports Cup at the Utah Olympic Park will benefit The Winter Sports School Scholarship Fund. Events will include a reception and ski auction on Friday, March 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at UOP’s Joe Quinney Center ($75 per person) and on Saturday, March 12, at UOP the WSS Sports Cup Ski Race for all ages and abilities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a BBQ from 1 to 3 p.m. ($35 for the race and BBQ). PCHS girls’ golfThere will be a meeting at Park City High School for girls in grades 9 through 12 on Wednesday, March 2. The meeting will start at 2:45 p.m., in the lecture hall across from the main office. Please attend if you are interested in playing golf this season, or email Coach Murphy for more information. Silver Mountain Sports Club offers Triathlon Training

Silver Mountain Sports Club & Spa will be running an eight-week triathlon training program beginning Feb. 28 for both first time and seasoned triathletes. USA Triathlon coach Sarah Dunlap will be holding three weekly 75-minute training sessions at SMSC focusing on swimming, cycling, running and strength training. Additional self-directed workouts and an online-tracking program will be part of the conditioning program. At the end of the session participants will be able to challenge themselves at Silver Mountain’s first annual Indoor Sprint Triathlon on April 23. The triathlon training program is open to the public, the eight-week training program including the 24-workout sessions and coaching is $300 for SMSC members, $450 for nonmembers. Anyone interested in learning more about this fast-growing sport should attend a free informational seminar at 9 a.m., on Feb. 21 at the Kimball Club or Feb. 23 at the Prospector Club.
