Utah Symphony conductor going out with a bang

Greg MarshallKeith Lockhart will not go quietly into that good night. At least not on Saturday night when the Utah Symphony kicks off its 2008 summer festival schedule with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture at Deer Valley Resort. The concert is from 7:30 -10:3

At that point, the Utah Symphony begins the long and grueling process of finding a new maestro. "It’s important you don’t try to replace Keith," Bram said. "You really have to start fresh."

Green said the process of selecting a new music director can take more than a year, and officials at the orchestra haven’t decided how best to bridge the gap. For now, members of the Utah Symphony say they are to sit back and enjoy Lockhart’s final performances in Utah. "We intend to make the 08-09 season a real celebration of Keith," Bram said.
