A year ago the Park City Community Foundation formed the Women's Giving Fund (WGF) with the intention of raising $1,000,000 by 1,000 women, donating a one time gift of $1,000. Explicit in this endowment is the initial $1,000,000 will never be touched for any reason, at any point in the future. The interest earned each year on the $1,000,000 will be given in one, possibly two large impact grants to non-profits which serve the needs of women and children of Summit County, in perpetuity.
What a year the Women's Giving Fund has had and what a wonderful community of givers we have in Park City! In these short months since last April, we almost have raised the $1,000,000 and 1,000 woman membership we set as our goal. The beauty of which I began this letter is the beauty I am in awe of which is the generosity of our community. We have women in their 90's and girls who are mere months old. Women from every socioeconomic strata of our community are WGF members. There are women who have been a part of the fabric of Park City for 30 years and women who are part-time residents as well. We share a common goal: we see the desperate need of some women and children in our community and we want to make a difference in their lives and help make the lives better for all of our citizens.
Each year the interest earned on the endowment will be granted to non-profits like Children's Justice Center, People's Health Clinic for women and children's issues, or Arts Kids and after school programs to enhance the lives of our children. There are many organizations in need of funds to assist with the various challenges within Summit County. We have had several events where a representative of a non-profit spoke about what a large impact grant would do for their non-profit and the women and children of Summit County. We learned the need is great and there is still much work to be done.
Members will be able to identify non-profits who would benefit by receiving a large impact grant ($25,000 to $50,000). As a member you will have the opportunity, and responsibility, to vote for which non-profit receives the grant each year. And as a member, you will have opportunities to network and socialize with like-minded women throughout the year.
As we come to the close of this one year campaign to create the endowment, my heart is filled with admiration for our beautiful community. We won't stop at 1,000 members. We will continue to recruit and strengthen and fortify our membership through the years. The more money we put into the endowment, the more interest we will earn and the greater the impact. There is still time to join the WGF and in fact, you are needed. We have not yet reached our goal nor the goal of the $35,000 challenge grant by Zions Bank. You can help WGF reach the goals and begin the good work. If you would like further information or to become a member, please go to: http://www.parkcityfoundation.org . Please join us April 10th at an event sponsored by the Hotel Park City from 5 to 7 p.m. for hors d'oeuvres and adult beverages and learn more about the good work WGF will be able to do with the endowment each year.
On behalf of the committees and staff of the Park City Community Foundation's Women's Giving Fund, thank you Park City for seeing the need and responding with such love.
