Park City's annual Santa Pub Crawl was inspired by a similar even in Salt Lake City a few years ago.

The idea was to get a group of locals to visit a handful of bars, and participate in some kind of activity at each stop.

"It had a weak turnout and they had stopped doing it," said Hilary Reiter, co-organizer of the Park City event. "But I felt it had so much potential, so my friend Rachel Sharwell and I decided to take it over and started in earnest last year and tried to make it an event for locals."

The annual Park City Santa Pub Crawl will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, starting at Butcher's Chop House and Bar, 751 Main St., at 7 p.m.

"Each stop is designed to last about an hour to give us a chance to relax, have fun and spend time in these great establishments," Reiter explained.

From Butchers, the group will head to Sky Blue, which is on the fourth floor of the Sky Lodge, for the costume contest that will begin at 8 p.m.

"We call it the Santa Pub Crawl, but we're open to all kinds of holiday-themed costume ideas," Reiter said. "We'll hopefully see everything from giant Christmas Trees and gingerbread men to sexy Santa helpers and more."

There will be four different costume categories best duo, best all-around Santa, sexiest costume and best non-Santa costume.

"The contest is where the creativity comes in," Reiter said. "Last year, Rachel's husband Paul Sharwell dressed up as an enormous Christmas Tree. He had ornaments hanging from him and his shoes were wrapped up like presents. Rachel made it herself and put a painstaking amount of effort into it. We also had Santa's elves and lots of Santas.

"This year, I'm hearing that people are getting more creative and we may have toy soldiers and champagne bottles," she said. "The prizes we will give away will be gift certificates for the Sky Lodge."

Vida Tequila will donate to the Sky Blue libations and bartenders will mix an array of specialty holiday drinks during the contest, Reiter said.

At 9 p.m., the throng will make its way to Flanagan's and then to No Name Saloon at 10 p.m.

"We're scheduled to end up at the Spur Bar & Grill at 11 p.m., where there will be live music by the band Urban Bleu," Reiter said. "We'll be there until the bar closes."

The Spur will waive the cover charge for anyone in costume.

"Everyone can get dressed up and have a good time," Reiter said. "No registration is needed. The people just need to show up."

Last year, more than 50 people participated.

"We had a broad spectrum of ages from 22 to 62, which, I think, made it really fun," Reiter said. "This year we're hoping to have more people participate. It's such a spectacle, and we draw a lot of attention everywhere we go."

For safety reasons, the group will walk from one establishment to another.

"It's all on foot, and hopefully it won't be as freezing cold as it was last year," Reiter said.

The annual Santa Pub Crawl will begin at 7 p.m. at Butchers Chop House and Bar, 751 Main St., and continue to various bars in Park City. Participants must be aged 21 and older. For more information, visit http://www.historicparkcityutah.com/calendar/santa-pub-crawl-2012.
