The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced the nomination of nine moguls and aerials athletes to the U.S. Olympic Freestyle Ski Team. The team will be led by reigning Olympic champion Hannah Kearney and 2010 Olympians Patrick Deneen, Heather McPhie, Emily Cook and Ashley Caldwell. The athletes were nominated based on results in the International Ski Federation World Cup.

"We're really excited to have Heather," freestyle program director Todd Sherman said. "She brings a ton of experience to the team."

For the aerials squad, having Cook's experience will be crucial in Sochi.

"Emily is a leader of this program and we're really excited to have her leading this team," Sherman said.

Five additional freeskiing athletes were nominated by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association to be a part of the Olympic debut of halfpipe and slopestyle skiing. Skicross athlete John Teller (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) was also nominated to the team, following his win in the final Olympic qualifying World Cup last week. With the confirmation of quotas within freestyle skiing, the USSA added two skiers in halfpipe and three in slopestyle to round out the team.

Park City resident Joss Christensen was named to the slopestyle skiing team, with Torin Yeater-Wallace earning a spot on the halfpipe skiing team and Annalisa Drew making the team in women's halfpipe skiing. Julia Krass and Maggie Voisin were added to the women's slopestyle team.

The formal naming of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team by the United States Olympic Committee is set for Jan. 27.
