The Park City Police Department last week received at least two complaints involving rental properties, continuing a string of similar cases during the ski season.
In one of the cases, classified as suspected fraud, the victim told the police they lost approximately $1,700, according to police logs. The Police Department received the report at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 from somewhere along Lowell Avenue.
The police said the person sent the approximately $1,700 to book the rental online. It turned out to be a scam, the police were told. The Police Department classified the case as suspected fraud.
In another case, reported on Wednesday, Jan. 29, someone in upper Deer Valley indicated a place was fraudulently listed online. Public police logs did not provide details. It was not clear from the logs whether the place was listed for rent or for sale. Many similar reports have involved places for rent rather than for sale.
There has been a series of cases this ski season reported to the Police Department with similar circumstances. The police have long recommended people book lodging through reputable firms and verify information about them.
