The Kimball Art Center in early March unveiled reworked designs for the expansion after an earlier concept was criticized as something that would be out of place in Old Town.

The expansion now under consideration would involve a 15,000-square-foot concrete addition on what is now a plaza at the Main Street-Heber Avenue intersection. It would range in height from 32 feet tall to 46 feet tall. The expansion would shift the front door of the art center to the Main Street-Heber Avenue intersection.

The addition would double the space at the Kimball Art Center. The new square footage would include additional space for exhibitions and programs. Some of the space -- 4,000 square feet would be operated as a Children's Interactive Discovery Center -- while another 3,000 square feet would be made into an education studio.

City Hall, meanwhile, is reviewing a submittal from the Kimball Art Center that asks staffers to determine the design meets the municipal government's tight Old Town standards. The Park City Planning Department is accepting public input through March 31. A public hearing about the design is scheduled at the Marsac Building at noon on March 31.

More information is available about the expansion on the Kimball Art Center's website, www.kimballartcenter.org/building-proposal/. The art center is accepting comments via email at expansion@kimballartcenter.org.
